In a World Skeptical of Everything, Real Connection Still Wins

Yesterday we walked through the data on how skeptical people have gotten of AI-generated content generally. Today we want to zoom in on what that means for brands trying to actually reach people, because we think it's the most underrated shift happening in marketing right now.
Audiences have gotten very good, very fast, at spotting an automated campaign. The same instincts that make someone scroll past an AI search summary make them scroll past an ad that reads like it was assembled by a template with a product name dropped in.
When 82% of people say they're skeptical of AI-produced content in general, that skepticism doesn't stay neatly contained to search results. It follows them into their inbox, their social feed and yes, into how they judge whether a brand actually means what it's saying.
We hear a lot of agencies respond to this by trying to make their automation sound less automated. Better prompts, warmer templates, more "personalization" pulled from a data set. We think that's solving the wrong problem. The issue was never that the messaging sounded robotic. It's that people can tell, on some level, whether a brand is actually paying attention to them or not, and no amount of template tuning fixes that.
Here's what we actually believe: the real, thoughtful idea is becoming a competitive advantage again. A brand that does the work, says something specific instead of something safe and shows up like it means it, is standing out more now than it would have five years ago, simply because so much of what people see daily is automated. Scarcity makes the real thing more valuable. That's true of authentic creative right now the same way it's true of anything else in short supply.
This is a big part of why we keep the work smart, simple and real instead of hiding behind decks and jargon. The tools can help us move faster. They can't replace an actual idea, and they definitely can't replace the moment a real person feels like a brand sees them. If your marketing has started to feel like noise even to you, that's worth a real look, not another layer of automation on top of the one that isn't working.
